What makes a car amplifier good

The speakers watts are watts per pair and 30 watts for rms my question is can i put amplifier on this 4 speakers and what type of amp do i need. I have and option for 4 channel amplifier. Thanks in advance. I would get a MonoBlock to run the Sub and then use the 4 channel for the remaining speakers. In my experience it is always better to have a separate Amp for the Sub and Speakers. However this can get pricey cost of a second amp and speaker wires to the sub.

A solution is to look for an Active Subwoofer subwoofer with its own built in Amp , as they only require power cable and RCA cable from head unit, which makes for a convenient and easy install.

Also makes for a quick and easy removal to take to your next car. I use the twin 8inch not much room in my car and its powerful enough trust me. It will be replacing a Hertz HCP4 55w per channel , I have no headroom with this unit, in fact the speakers are underpowered by about w each.

I admit I am a musician and have very musically tuned ears, the moment the shop finished my install and I listened, I identified rear left as out of phase with the rest, which it was. Hey I have the hertz mille pro 6 x 9, 4 of them in the car.

The installer gave me a HCP4 for those speakers. I think HDP4 would be way better to power them and better sounding no? I heard fosgate would be a good one. Thanks a lot for this article. I was trying to find a suitable amp for my car. I am confused that which amplifier will be the best for my car, is it 4 gauge or 5 gauge and which CCA wire is the best with it? Hertz HSK comps 2. Hertz HCX coax 3. Hertz HDP 1 mono 4. Hertz HX D sub 5. Pioneer double din BT HU. Mosconi One Audison AV quattro 3.

Mosconi AS Hertz HDP 4 5. Audison AP8. Or any other amplifier. Meer, you should not be seeking advice like this online. You need to go out into stores and audition this product for yourself and see what sounds best to your ears.

We would be happy to let you audition the Hertz and audition products here at our store. One thing I completely agree about is that you need to make sure you are getting a warranty on your car amplifier.

I would want to make sure that if anything happened to my amplifier, I would be able to have it replaced. I have been looking at different car audio upgrades ever since I bought my new car. I want to make my music sound as great as I can.

I will have to keep these tips in mind! Hi, great advice! Is there a limit to how much more powerful the amp should be? Choosing an amplifier for audio system is not an easy issue to deal with. Thanks for sharing great tips and information! I want to buy an sound system. From the shop where iam going to buy they sell two models..

You can also power all 4 coaxial speaker units with the same amp and then designate a separate a different mono amp for the sub-woofer. You should note that component systems are usually more complicated and you may require more than a single amplifier and external crossovers.

Never compromise on power when selecting your car amp units. Most people tend does the mistake of purchasing the amp first before buying the amp. It is recommended that you go the other way round. You should pick the speakers first and then determine the perfect amp suitable to power them. If your amplifier is not capable of matching the required sub-woofer power, then you may consider going for a separate mono amplifier that can get the job done perfectly.

Installing an unamplified signal to your amp gives you a very clear sound. If your existing head unit falls within this category, then you will have to go for an amplifier with speaker-level units. It will also save you from messing with additional adapter installation and wiring. Power amplifiers as seen in the image above have main sections dedicated to modify or manipulate audio signals as well as for delivering more current and voltage.

The first sections contain small components like miniature transistors that divide the audio signal into two halves. The input signal is magnified to an identical but much larger waveform connect to the speaker outputs. The class listed by a car audio amplifier manufacturer is the type of technology used for the audio signal and to deliver power. This is wasted purely as heat!

By contrast, a class D amp uses pulse width modulation PWM technology that switches power components on only a portion of the time. These are converted back to smooth audio signal waves before being delivered to speakers.

Channels are independent audio paths that are used to create a sound output from an amplifier. In stereo recordings, the left and right audio sources differ and provide left vs. In car audio, left and right audio channels are separate outputs from a car stereo or an independent signal path with an amplified output. Additionally, some stereos provide front and rear outputs pairs, although these are simply the same signals provided to drive an extra pair of speakers in the rear.

Generally power connections are located on one end and audio inputs and controls are found on the other end. In image above you can see adjustable crossover dials and the switches to enable them. The point after which sound frequencies are blocked, called the cutoff frequency , is adjustable by the user with a small dial in some cases. However, fixed crossover frequencies are normally set to the most commonly used values for convenience.

Power connections are typically made using larger-gauge copper wire and connectors, often included in an amp wiring kit. RCA cables are used to connect the amplifier to the audio signal outputs of the head unit from which music is played. The bottom image above shows the polarity and wiring connections required. In bridged mode, one channel provides the positive speaker connection and the other provides the negative. A speaker level input wiring harness is shown. These take the higher voltage speaker level signal directly from speaker wiring and reduce it to a smaller level the amplifier can use.

A typical installation for a car amplifier.
